The Earth As A Living Species

Some would call me crazy or even a lunatic for my belief that this planet we call home is an actual living being. As the true native Americans who roamed the USA before we came along and civilised them. I believe the earth has provided us with what is necessary to survive and can continue to provide for our future generations. But we have to be able to look at what the advances we have made has done to our little world. Listen to our world just as you would listen to your body when it tells you it's not working properly.

I also believe that everything has a place and purpose. The oil we suck out of the ground is the same as draining blood from your body, without blood you wouldn't survive for very long, and the earth won't survive much longer without the oil running through it's veins. We have a symbiotic relationship with this planet, I believe that this world won't survive without us as much we won't survive without this world. If we keep ignoring that than we have no right to be here in the first place.

For a species that claims to be of superior intelligence, we have proven to be a destructive lot who doesn't pay attention to or appreciate the world we live on and the wonders it has provided us. We have been taught to ignore the past, and over look the knowledge we have already discovered. In other words if it's not new and improved it's not acceptable or right. Our future generations are the ones who will suffer the consequences and pay for the mistakes of the policy makers who have proven their questionable concept of moral obligations and responsibilities.

Let's consider our founding fathers they knew and understood the need of a renewable and sustainable products. One of them faced certain death for smuggling hemp seeds out of China, he did this to provide for our new nation, to help our ancestors escape the tyranny of an unjust government. It is suspected that when our founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence they were under the influence of both alcohol and herb. Some even raised it as a cash crop. While our government not only accepted it as payment for taxes, but required farmers to produce hemp. We probably wouldn't be the nation of people we are today if it wasn't for this plant. By the way, both our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution were wrote on paper made of hemp.

These hemp seeds provided the agricultural needs of this growing nation for over a hundred and fifty years, they provided the people with dependable sturdy clothing and paper (some of which still exists). Hemp was also used to manufacture fuel for the earliest vehicles of the industrial revolution. Henry Ford even developed a poly-fiber body for his vehicles and a biodegradable plastic of all natural fibers. I remember years ago of an article that had proven that ethanol was a cleaner burning fuel, which means it's healthier for the environment.

While there were studies that proved one acre of hemp can produce as much paper as 4 acres of wood pulp could. Levi Strauss manufactured durable work clothes out of hemp. We also have evidence available proving hemp is an excellent rotation crop for farmers to use in revitalising the soil for the next crop. There are old government publications that state hemp could be the billion dollar crop of the early 1900's. Now considering the amount of damage caused by ignoring this possibility we are in need of re-evaluating the concept of what progress is.

Up until 1944 cannabis was listed in the pharmacology handbook as a source of medicine, I am not one to believe it's the cure all medicine as some would like to believe it is. I do believe that it does have some medicinal values that need to be explored. We have in the past been told the more natural and organic the product we consume the healthier will will be. I tend to believe this should also include the medicines. It is my opinion that the combination of chemicals we consume is directly responsible for some of the health problems we as a nation suffer from.

It seems that the only way for a person to be chemically free is to live on a deserted island or in uncharted land. What we do on this planet has an equal and opposite reaction. And I'm worried that our children and grandchildren won't get the chance to enjoy their right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
