This is to me an example of our CSA going to the extreme. What a waste of taxpayers money if I ever saw one. He's 69 years old and by the time he finishes serving time he'll be 71. This is why so many people are disgruntled toward our politicians. They can't bring themselves to find a suitable solution to this issue. Just because they may not agree with people using it or approve of the people using it doesn't mean it's the wrong choice for everyone. In this case the man did what he could afford to do for his wife. So basically you are a criminal in this country if you can't afford the modern medicines we are required by law to accept as the legal options, or consider those options as acceptable.
